PT Bumi heralds new era for Dairi

INDONESIA'S biggest coal producer PT Bumi Resources has launched an 455 million Austrilia dollars (397 million US dollars) hostile takeover bid for Herald Resources Ltd, the majority owner of the planned Dairi zinc and lead mine in Sumatra. PT Bumi has offered 2.25 Austrilia dollars/share for Perth-based Herald, the Jakarta-based company said. The hostile offer was made after talks with Herald over a six-month period faltered, PT Bumi director Kenneth Farrell said today.
