Alcoa-Alcan Guinea refinery deal

Two of the world's largest aluminium producers have signed an agreement to build an alumina refinery in Guinea, with an initial capacity of 1.5 Mt/y. Alcoa Inc, through its 60 percent-owned subsidiary Alcoa World Alumina LLC (AWA), and Alcan Inc signed an agreement this Tuesday with the Guinea Government that sets the framework for the development of the refinery. The deal follows a memorandum of understanding last year (MJ, May 14,2004, p1).
