Vein mineral sites

The Peak District National Park considered two vein mineral sites recently. Renewal of consent for completion of vein mineral restoration to agricultural grazing, off Lambpart Lane, Bradwell was approved in June by the Peak District National Park. The application covered 1.5 ha of land permitted for vein mineral extraction in 1997, and was for a further renewal of permission until March 2003 to allow final restoration. Up to 5,000 cu.m of imported inert waste is required to infill the remaining void and restore the site to an agricultural grazing afteruse. Variation of a condition to increase the sales output limitation and consolidation of existing planning permissions at Arbor Low Works, Middleton and Smerrill was originally recommended for refusal by the Peak District National Park in May. The 3.9 ha site was originally developed as an underground mine for calcite with on-site calcite processing from the mine. Working at Arbor Low Mine first commenced in 1920. In 1986 permission was granted for the storage and processing of imported aggregate materials with conditions imposed to cover the renovation and landscaping of the site and buildings, an output limit of 5,000 tpa and no further mineral extraction from the mine.
