China clay waste

In July Cornwall CC considered an interim report on the proposed construction of a surface tip for the disposal of china clay waste near St Stephen-in-Brannel for Imerys Minerals Ltd following a site visit and public meeting. The site visit involved a tour of the area surrounding the application site; the toe of the proposed tip had been pegged out to give an appreciation of the footprint of the area and helium balloons were tethered in an attempt to give a visual indication of the proposed new landform. The Public Meeting was well attended and a statement was given by a spokesman from the Action Group (A.G.A.I N.S.T). Imerys Minerals Ltd propose to develop a new surface tip for wastes arising from china clay extraction in Melbur and Virginia Pits. The site is known as "Scarcewater". The application area totals 56.4ha with the footprint of the proposed tip 77.2ha (comprising 51.2ha of agricultural land, 22ha of the existing Melbur Tip and 4ha of other land).
