Quarry update

In July North Yorkshire CC considered an update on progress with planning issues at Cridling Stubbs Quarry (see Mineral Planning 91 p.25). Frequent monitoring of the site had continued and while there had been some improvement in the noise situation since the new hydraulic excavator was employed it was clear that intermittent problems continued to occur. These appeared to stem from use of the pecker and the noise of the excavator bucket contacting hard stone during extraction operations. Wind direction played an important role in determining whether these activities caused noise disturbance in Cridling Stubbs. In an attempt to secure further improvements, the operator was requested to consider programming of operations involving use of the pecker so as to take place when the wind direction was away from Cridling Stubbs.
