Revision of national and regional guidelines for aggregates provision in England 2001 - 2016

A consultation on draft national and regional guidelines for aggregates provision in England for the period 2001 - 2016 was issued on 5 August for comment by 4 November 2002. The consultation is available at www.planning.odpm.gov.uk It was decided to prepare revised guidelines as a matter of urgency before the remainder of the guidance in MPG6 is revised. When finally issued, these revisions will replace the specified relevant parts of MPG6, but the remainder of that document will remain in force for the time being, pending its full review. The full revision of MPG6 will reflect the ministerial decisions on the future of planning guidance in general announced on 18 July and reported elsewhere in this issue. This will involve the preparation of shorter, sharper-focussed statements of national policy, with supporting guidance material in separate, less prescriptive documents. The present consultation is to pave the way for new, lower guidelines as soon as practicable. It is not consultation on the wider principles of minerals or aggregates supply.
