Grand Canyon Section golf tournament raises funds for scholarships

The Grand Canyon Section of the SME has selected its officers for 2008. Anthony Staley is chair, Andrew Soderman is vice chair, Stephen Statham is secretary/ treasurer, Scott Ver Straten and Jim Davis are directors and John Uh-rie is past chair. The section holds monthly chapter meetings to support its scholarship fund and features world-class speakers at most of its meetings. Some of the featured speakers are Mary Poulton, head of the University of Arizona's Mining and Geological Engineering program; John Galassini, senior vice president of Freeport-McMoRan; Barbara Filas, president of Knight-Piesold and 2006 SME president and Jim Arnold, general manager for Climax Molybdenum and 2007 SME president.
