Progress on a Review of the Essex Minerals Local Plan was considered by Essex CC in July. The current Minerals Local Plan (MLP) was adopted in 1996 and through the allocation of preferred sites makes provision for an adequate supply of primary land won aggregates to maintain a sufficient landbank throughout the plan period, based on MPG6. However, MPG6, published in 1994, was "widely acknowledged to be out of date". Permitted reserves of aggregates in Essex have remained consistently above the required seven years throughout the Plan period. Currently they stand at in excess of eleven years. However, there are reasons why it was considered timely to carry out the review.
