摘要

In May the North York Moors National Park Authority was recommended to approve the re-opening of part of a former quarry at Aislaby Moor, Aislaby for P & C Craven. The application related to the reopening of a small part (0.6 ha) of the former Aislaby Quarry to provide building stone. There is a very extensive area of former quarrying on the south facing side of the Esk Valley to the west of Aislaby village. From the mid 17th Century building stone was quarried for use in local buildings such as Whitby piers and for use for piers in Ramsgate and Margate, for parts of London and Waterloo bridges and for buildings in London, Cambridge and Copenhagen. Since the end of quarrying in the 1950s the site has naturally regenerated.
