EIA scoping guidelines

In May the Environment Agency "the most important environmental adviser and regulator in England and Wales" produced scoping guidelines targeted at developers, consultants, local planning authority staff and Environment Agency staff. The guidelines comprise a handbook and 76 guidance notes on a CD ROM that describe the impacts of a comprehensive range of individual development types. These include for extraction of natural resources and their primary processing':Dredging of riverine, estuarine and marine sediments (including commercial dredging and dredging for navigation) and reclamation.Opencast mining and quarrying for coal, minerals, ores, etc.Petro-chemical industry - offshore developments, including exploration.Petro-chemical industry - onshore developments, including exploration.Restoration of mineral extraction sites.The guidelines are not intended to be prescriptive, but to encourage a consistent approach to scoping for projects that may have significant effects on the environment.
