Dorset CC in June considered the review of old mineral planning permissions at two sites in Purbeck District at Furzeyground Openpit, Furzebrook, Church Knowle, Warcham; and Aldermoor-Greenspecks mine near Creech Barrow. Conditions were agreed for both sites. Furzeyground. Extraction of Ball Clay has been undertaken on an intermittent and 'low-key' basis at Furzeyground Clay Pit for many years, under a 1967 permission. Furzeyground Openpit lies 3.8km south of Wareham and 3.6km north-west of Corfe Castle. It is one of six opencast ball clay sites currently operated in Dorset by Imcrys Minerals Ltd. Ball clays extracted from the site arc taken for processing and blending at the nearby Furzebrook Works. Historically, ball clays have been worked in the Furzeyground area for over 200 years.
