摘要

In 2002, nine miners were trapped in the Quecreek coal mine in southwestern Pennsylvania. Rescue workers at the site broke drills while drilling rescue holes. A hurried search for replacement drills and a helicopter to get the drills back to the mine were impeded by a lack of ready access to emergency sources. One result of that incident is that the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) has announced a new mine emergency operations (MEO) database. It lists mine-rescue teams nationwide and mine emergency services and related contacts at the federal, state and local levels. Go to the MSHA Web site, www.msha.com and click on "MEO Database."
