Alaska's mining future is bright thanks to Native American Corporations

Think of Alaskan mining and it's easy to think of the past, famous gold rushes, and historic mining districts like Nome. However, there is more to Alaska than gold and history. Alaska possesses half of the nation's coal reserves. It has many world class ore deposits, as evidenced by the nation' 5 largest silver and zinc mines. And, since most of these reserves are untapped, Alaska's mining future is even brighter than its fabled past.Although mining is in the doldrums elsewhere, Alaskan mining executives are more optimistic. "Mining here is fine except for placer," noted Alaska Miners Association Executive Director Steven Borell. "There is activity in all corners and major mines are going full steam." When asked why, he observes, "this is still a place where permitting can take place quickly."
