WASHINGTON, D.C. HOSTS 20TH ANNUAL WIM NATIONAL CONVENTION

The National Convention of Women In Mining (WIM) was held in Washington, D.C., May 3-5, 2001, and was hosted by the local chapter. Representatives from all six WIM chapters and At-Large members attended the annual event. The National Organization celebrated its 20th anniversary during the convention. The first WIM chapter was organized in Denver in 1972. They and the succeeding chapters nationwide formed a combined organization in 1981.Keynote speaker was Jack Gerard, president and CEO of the National Mining Association, who welcomed the group to D.C. Mr. Gerard shared his vision for ensuring that mining would remain a viable industry in America. A panel consisting of members from the Bureau of Land Management, the Mine Safety and Health Administration, and the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association briefed the group on current and upcoming legislative policies that will affect the mining and minerals industries.
