Caterpillar's new 793D mining truck incorporates innovations unique to mining trucks. The 218-t (240-st) size class truck will be available in five differerft configurations. All configurations feature a new common rail hydraulics system. It allows functions to be controlled, allowing for reduced parasitic power loss and maximizing available power to the ground. The standard configuration of the 793D truck is designed for speed on grade. Up to a 9-percent increase in horsepower to the ground is provided by the combined contribution of the engine (5 percent) and the common rail hydraulics system (4 percent). This will be the most productive choice for miners with short to moderate length hauls on average uphill grades. The next configuration is the extended life wheel station. It offers more robust wheel stations, larger spindles and bearings, making it ideal for long uphill applications. The third configuration of the 793D is designed for extra speed. A new input transfer gear set and different ratio gives this configuration up to 10 percent higher top speed. It is designed for relatively long, flat haul profiles. The extra retarding configuration is designed for applications involving downhill loading. It provides up to 35 percent increase in maximum retarding speed. The final configuration of the 793D is for operation at high altitudes. Based on the 793C High Altitude Arrangement, this configuration has a 3516 short-stroke engine with a special compound turbo charging arrangement. It also includes the extra retarding package.
