Surface mines in three states win OSM reclamation awards

The US Office of Surface Mining (OSM) honored mining projects in Maryland, Arkansas and Utah for their outstanding reclamation work. The winners of the agency's National Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Reclamations Awards were announced by Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton.The Vindex reclamation project in Garrett County, MD, was named national and Appalachian region winner. The Maryland Department of Environment Water Management Administration Mining Program reclaimed a former coal mine along the North Fork of the Potomac River.
