Mining Journal, Mining Magazine sold, E&MJ and Coal Age cease publication

First came word that Mining Journal Ltd., publisher of Mining Journal and Mining Magazine, had been sold. The new owners are Mining Communications Ltd. (MCL), a new company. MCL is chaired by Chris Innis of the EMAP plc. publishing group. MCL's managing director is Rob Barrowman, formerly with EMAP's automative publishing division. MCL's commercial director is Keith Dalton, formerly publishing director of EMAP's vehicle fleet titles. Mining Journal has been published since 1835. Its companion periodical, Mining Magazine, was acquired by Mining Journal Ltd in 1963. For the past 13 years, Mining Journal Ltd. has been owned by Lawrence Williams, Michael West and Chris Hinde. West is retiring. Williams will remain as a consulting editor to World Tunnelling, another Mining journal Ltd. (now EMAP) magazine. Only Hinde will become a director of MCL.
