BHP Billiton will market all of its Ekati diamonds

BHP Billiton will not renew its marketing agreement with the Diamond Trading Co. (DTC), De Beers' diamond marketing arm. Instead, BHP Billiton will do its own marketing of the diamonds produced at its Ekati Mine in Canada's Northwest Territories. In July 1999, BHP Billiton signed a three-year agreement with DTC to sell 35 percent by value of Ekati's run-of-mine diamond production. That agreement expires at the end of this year.
