The formal records of emerald production in Afghanistan before and after the mechanization program are not available, for confidentiality reasons. Due to the shortness of his visit in Afghanistan, the author was unable to collect full work-safety statistics. However, the results of performance tests conducted in several European countries (including Poland) show that the machines and equipment supplied to Afghanistan are reliable and robust. So it is reasonable to expect that the safety level achieved by the mechanization scheme is higher.
