Patriot Coal mine gets permit; Arch mine deadline delayed

Patriot Coal received a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to proceed with the expansion of a mountaintop mine in West Virginia. Meanwhile, the news was not as positive for Arch Coal as the deadline for a decision regarding environmental issues at its Mingo Logan Mining Co. was pushed back. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it had told the Corps that it supported issuing a Clean Water Act permit for the Patriot Coal's Hobet 45 Mine in Lincoln County. The mine is operated by Hobet Mining, part of St. Louis-based Patriot.
