Queensland's Mines Minister, Mr Henry Palaszczuk, and a former Mines Minister, Mr Tony McGrady, have both announced they will retire from politics at the next State election. They and two other senior members of the Government made the announcement on August 7, only days before the Queensland Premier announced on August 15 that the election would be held on September 9. Mr Palaszczuk had been an MP since 1984. He served as Minister for Primary Industries from 1998 to 2005 and was Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Water since that time.
