The de Havilland Sea Vixen was the first British fighter without guns, designed to fight using rockets and missiles. The Sea Vixen was also at the pinnacle of twin tail boom design following the de Havilland Vampires and Venoms. This aircraft was designed to be the Royal Navy's main fighter aircraft and was a large aircraft to operate from carriers. The late 1950s and the 1960s were the heyday of Royal Navy airpower when flight decks would be full of Sea Vixens until the arrival of the Buccaneer and Phantom.
