In the second part we complete the painting and finishing of the Merkava Hybrid The second nightmare that Merkava modellers will have to face is the replication of the characteristic anti-skid surface on these vehicles. This surface exists almost on all Merkavas. Many modellers have their own solutions for replicating this surface. My solution is very fine sand I bought from a pet shop. It is called chincilla sand. Although the sand in the package is very fine, it is still advisable to sift it a couple of times. Once the sand is ready, its application is fairly simple. First I applied a primer coat for the model surface to look homogenous and to work on it more easily - Photo 1. Then I picked some acrylic varnish with a medium sized brush and after getting rid of the excess varnish on the brush, painted the surface areas where I wanted to create the anti-skid texture. I then sprinkled the sifted sand on these areas. Instead of trying to cover large areas at once, it is better to be patient and work on smaller sections, one by one. Once the entire model is covered, it is important to apply another layer of primer to make sure that the sand is firmly secured on the surface - Photo 2. I must also remind you that a good reference study is a must to find out exactly where anti-skid texture needs to be applied.
