This kit is for me one of the most exciting I have ever received. A brand new state of the art 1/32 Mustang was for me a surprise, bearing in mind that several companies had recently released their own versions, which whilst okay, didn't really impress. Given Tamiya's track record of releasing outstanding and exhaustively researched kits of some of the more important types, perhaps such a release was inevitable. There has been quite a debate on some of the modelling forums that a new P-51 was hardly original or imaginative. Obviously these individuals would never buy a kit of such a boring subject, perhaps if it was a Spiteful or Beaufort, but not another Mustang. Well to those people I will point out the obvious: it costs millions to create a modern kit like this especially one so well researched and considered. To make their money back, these companies have to sell an awful lot of these kits so the subject matter is crucial, and like it or loathe it, the Mustang is a very popular aircraft. But boring? Unimaginative? These workhorses roamed the skies over Europe and the Far East fighting and defeating the best the enemy had to offer. They watched over the bomber streams heading out towards Nazi occupied Europe, strafed enemy airfields and installations, battled head to head with Me 262s, Doras, 109s, Tonys, Hiens and generally helped bring that awful cacophony to an end, and what is more, were often adorned with beautiful nose art and hard won kill markings. Boring? I don't think so...
