This scene is set in the final days of the Battle of Berlin and portrays a lonely mother and her children struggling through a wasteland of death and destruction. When the Russians made their final big push towards the Reichstag and Hitler's bunker, the civilians who were stuck in the city suffered enourmously and most had the same experiences as the figures in my diorama. The diorama is jam-packed with vehicles in different states of destruction. I tried deliberately to use civilian vehicles to provide a focal point for the civilians caught up in the struggle.
