Though opinion varies, I have often felt that building dioramas stretches your skill levels like no other aspect of our hobby. Combining the assembly and painting of a vehicle, accompanying figures and their natural surroundings, not only tests your ability to master technique, but also your knowledge of products and what you can or can't use to get the job done. A visit to your local model shop will nodoubt open up a world of off-the-shelf products that you can use to create natural environments, fields, trees, plants etc., all being available from a wide range of different companies that specialise in such things. Perhaps the most well-known of these is Woodland Scenics, an American company who produce an enormous number of products for the model railway enthusiast, both as individual items and also sets that draw together some of those separate products, to create very useful starter packs.
