By 12 April 1883, Grabill had temporarily relocated his assay and mining claim exchange office to Rodoni's old stand on Main Street, Buena Vista. While working from this temporary office, he started to have a brick office built, which was commented on in the 17 May 1883 Buena Vista Democrat. A week later, the local paper noted that he was looking to also buy a house in town, saying "This will cause a flutter in a dozen fertile hearts." In 7 June 1883, Grabill purchased a town lot from H. N. Wood (Chaffee County courthouse records, Book 11, p. 178) and another from E. H. Hiller (Chaffee County courthouse records, Book 28, page 365).
