Pioneer Colorado Mineral Dealer and Minister

Colorado pioneer, Lewis Hamilton, arrived in 1859 to the Colorado Front Range chasing souls instead of gold. Minerals were also easier to find than gold, thus during the years 1867 to 1876, he became the noted "mineral cabinetist," selling suites of specimens across the country. His Curiosities of the Rocky Mountains museum in central Denver provided his livelihood with time out for evangelizing. Considered the first Presbyterian missionary in Denver, he was also possibly the city's first mineral dealer.
