Nevada's Top Hemimorphite Locality--The Dauntless Mine, Near Ely, White Pine County, Nevada

Surprisingly high quality and aesthetic specimens of crystallized hemimorphite have been produced during the past fifteen years from a rather humble and inconspicuous abandoned property called the Dauntless mine, at the outskirts of Ely. Without question, these specimens recently obtained by field collectors now comprise the finest examples of the species yet preserved from the state. Selected groups display fans to 2.5 cm of lustrous, colorless to white crystals attractively perched upon contrasting orange-brown smithsonite and limonite matrix, and these pieces begin to rank with hemimorphite from most other world occurrences.
