Albert Laws Kidwell (1919-2008)

On Saturday, August 16, 2008 the mineral collecting community lost a long-time collector and good friend to many in this country and abroad. Although Al and Marian moved to Scottsdale in July 2006, many of us here still considered them good friends. Al and Marian had move to Houston in the early 1960s from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Al was a professional economic geologist with a B.S. in Mining Engineering in 1940 from the Missouri School of Mines, an M.S. in Geology from Washington University (St. Louis) in 1942, and a PhD in Geology from the University of Chicago in 1949. After that most of Al's professional career was in research with Exxon or some of the predecessors that eventually became Exxon. His projects and research subjects were diverse but included copper, uranium and other minerals that led him to many areas both in the United States and overseas.
