On Magnetism

In my youth, one of many things that fascinated me was magnetism. Yes, I built various devices including electromagnets and was familiar with Etch-A-Sketch and compasses. When I was told about serious compasses deviations due to "rocks" present in the North Polar region, a new avenue of exploration presented itself. Also, hunters shared stories of city slickers being misled due to compass readings suffering from the close presence of large belt buckles and even their own rifles.
