摘要

The Gold Hill Mine was discovered 1870's and was mined briefly for gold and argentiferous galena. Major production occurred in the 1890's and the mine was acquired by Western Utah Copper Company in 1906 and became known as the Western Utah Mine (see figure 2). It is forever-known to collectors simply as Gold Hill. The deposit was a complex polymetallic sulfide ore body with both veins and replacement type deposits formed between a quartz monzonite intrusion, part of the Gold Hill stock, and Paleozoic sedimentary rocks, chiefly limestone. Extensive oxidation of the sulfide ores occurs in the upper levels, and skarn silicate minerals are common in the igneous-sedimentary contact area. Metals produced included gold, silver, lead, zinc, copper and arsenic. In the 1920's, it was the largest arsenic reserve known in the United States. The mine closed in 1925 due to a fall is the demand for arsenic.
