A New Edenite Locality Cape San Martin, Monterey Co., California

The Cape San Martin area of Monterey County, California (see figure 2, next page) has long been known to mineral collectors and lapidaries as a source of nephrite jade, the name commonly given to minerals of the actinolite-tremolite series that form microcrystalline, densely compact, tough nodules that are prized for cutting and carving. My first experience there happened a long time ago, in 1948 to be exact. My Dad took me down there to look for "jade".
