The "Uranium Boom" on the Colorado Plateau in the 1950's produced thousands of mineral specimens for collectors. Almost every significant uranium mineral known today has been found in the Colorado Plateau deposits. In addition, many vanadium minerals also occurred with the uranium. There were a number of "winners" in the search for the radioactive treasure, but two deposits stand out because of the drama associated with their discovery: the Mi Vida Mine and the Delta Mine, both located in Utah. Older readers of Mineral News likely know at least part of the story surrounding the discoveries and the eccentric characters involved.
