Light vehicles in the vanguard: This year's CV show is more about vehicle maintenance than new product, with light vans taking precedence over the heavily regulated vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes

With the commercial vehicle sector having to contend with the drag of recession, coupled with ever more stringent regulations, the CV Show at Birmingham's NEC is more a defiant act of bravery than an event driven by demand to showcase new products. Actual vehicles at the show on April 13, 14 and 15 will be sparse and concentrated on the light end, reflecting the fact that the number of vans in circulation has risen by 41 per cent over the last 10 years. There are now more than seven vans for every one lorry on our roads.
