Apprenticeships evoke a mixed response from the automotive sector, with both positive and negative reactions. Taking on an apprentice requires a balance of recruiting the right individual for the business with the potential and aptitude to make the investment worthwhile, against the time and cost commitment required to take them on. There are a number of fears felt when considering taking on an apprentice - the red tape, the amount of time spent bringing them up-to-speed over a 3-4 year period, the uncertainty over the amount of business coming in and the overall cost of employing an apprentice. These uncertainties raise the big question - are apprentices worth the time and financial effort? With its ground breaking research, the BVH's answer is an emphatic yes.
