Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada Convention (PDAC)

Director-General of the NSW Department of Mineral Resources Alan Coutts and Assistant Director (Minerals Assessment) of the Geological Survey of NSW Lindsay Gilligan visited Toronto, Canada, in March 2002 for the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada Convention (PDAC). Australian state mineral resources departments (as well as Geoscience Australia) mounted exhibits in the Australian Pavilion. The number of delegates to PDAC 2002 exceeded 7000, reflecting the importance of this event as the key exploration meeting for the global mining industry. PDAC is an excellent opportunity to promote the State's exploration credentials internationally and to meet with senior representatives of many global exploration companies. The NSW promotional display emphasised the opportunities in the central west and far west regions for the State with particular emphasis on porphyry copper-gold potential, Cobar-type deposits and opportunities in the Broken Hill area. The State's geoscience information advantage was also promoted with emphasis on DIGS on the internet and the revolutionary new MinView application.
