Driving and vehicle-related trades are the single largest discipline in the armed forces. So when it comes to assisting injured veterans return to civilian life, the automotive industry reports for duty. Every year around 1,000 members of our Armed Forces are discharged from service on medical grounds. If s a statistic which raises a simple question - what are they going to do in civilian life? Set up two years ago, Mission Motorsport is a charity working to help find the answer. Its focus is aiding the recovery and rehabilitation of those injured during military operations, and does it through providing opportunities in motor racing. However, as time has gone on, the name has become slightly misleading. The brief is expanding rapidly to cover the entire automotive sector, and with Government backing.
