An education in restoration

A project to restore a 1961 dragster is set to bring together a group of experienced enthusiasts with the next generation of automotive technicians. The Allard Chrysler Action Group has announced, an exciting new relationship with the IMI. The partnership forms part of the IMI's new online apprenticeship community for 16-24 year olds called Accelerate (www.motor.org.uk/accelerate). In a novel move they have decided to endorse the project to restore to working order Europe's first dragster - Sydney Allard's 1961354 cubic inch (5.8 litres) Chrysler Hemi V8 powered machine owned by the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu. It last raced in 1964 and the restoration work is being spearheaded by the Allard Chrysler Action Group (AC AG) - a bunch of enthusiasts approved by the museum to raise the funds and awareness of the project as well as provide the expertise to carry out the work required.
