All too often dealer management systems are confined to business 'processes' rather than being extended to fulfil their customer relationship capabilities. My first coffee of the day was interrupted by a text message saying that my local dealer was once again holding the 'never to be repeated', 'biggest ever', 'you cannot miss it' used car sale that coming weekend. Since I don't need a change of car, I thumbed delete and turned my attention to the post, opening the wrapper of the latest Club magazine. Out fell a bundle of leaflets for vitamins, pensions, healthcare and garden furniture, which promptly went into the recycling bin. As my wife read a letter from Tesco and one from our doctors advising that the kids should have the flu jab, I sipped the now tepid coffee and reflected on all that marketing effort that had been unceremoniously binned. There had to be a better way...
