The replacement of a stretch fit belt sounds very straightforward, but in practice, it is a little more complicated than it sounds. Gates provides some handy hints. Some drive belts have to be stretched to fit over pulleys on some simple drive systems that have been designed for engines that no longer use a tensioning device. Despite the name, it is not physically possible to stretch these belts by hand. Attempts to do so lead to frustration, lost time and can compromise personal safety. The Gates Stretch Fit belt is one of these. However, it should be noted that all such belts are not the same and the installation procedure is not always the same for each application Specific tools are needed to install an elastic stretch fit belt. The Gates SFT001 is one such tool. It covers about 70% of all applications and the basic handling of this tool is outlined below.
