Back in 1996 when Mercedes launched the SLK, its folding metal hard-top caused something of a sensation. It was new and innovative, and most importantly didn't let the rain in like some convertibles of the day. Fifteen years later, with the launch of the third generation of the popular two-seater, the same component is also gaining plaudits for pushing the barriers of what's achievable.
