DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTERS

DPFs have effectively become compulsory on new diesel vehicles so it is important to understand what they are, writes Colin Griffin of The Academy - Jaguar Land Rover. Recently there does seem to be a lot of talk about Diesel particulate filters or (DPFs as they are commonly known) whether in dealerships, owners forums or on TV. The consensus seems to be that they are something that has leapt from nowhere to spoil the days of diesel motoring. This unsurprisingly is not the case and they are actually an important part of the emissions control system that we use on modern diesel vehicles. And in 2009 with the launch of EU5 exhaust emissions standards, they have effectively become compulsory on new diesel vehicles.
