Culled cows from northern Australia recorded daily carcase gains of 0.8 to 1.0 kg/hd/day in a feedlot trial at central Queensland's Brigalow Research Station. After 90 days all carcases were promoted from manufacturing grade to primal cut grade cow beef. The trial work, led by Tropical Beef Centre cattle research husbandry officer, Michael Jeffery, has shown there are across-the-board industry benefits to be gained through better management and marketing of cull cows, with the potential to achieve profit margins ranging from 100 dollar to 300 dollar a head.
