Alkane Exploration NL's latest find at its PeakHill copper project in New South Wales could lead to Australia'sfirst sulphide bioheap leach operation. The discovery of a largesulphide mineralised zone beneath the project's Properitary oxidedeposit had prompted the scoping study by Signet EngineeringPty Ltd, which was completed last month. Sulphide bio-heapleaching used the same processes as oxide operations, and thatPeak Hill ore seemed particularly suited to this treatment. Alkaneis aiming for its 100%owned heap leach mine at Peak Hill toyield 100, 000 oz per annum by the year 2,000.
