In terms of both its positive economic and environmental impact, the aluminum industry remains one of the most significant national and international success stories-how it is to be seen on the aluminum statistics for the year 2001. In 2001, 8,625 thousand tons of aluminum were shipped to U.S. markets, a decline of 12.2 percent for the revised 2000 total of 9,824 thousand tons.
