AS THE AUSTRALIAN dollar gold price hits record highs, local gold production has fallen both for the last quarter and for the full 2008 year, according to a Melbourne-based mining consultant. In its latest Quarterly Gold Review, Surbiton Associates said domestic output of the precious metal for the 2008 calendar year was 219 tonnes (7 million ounces) - a fall of 29t (or 12 percent) on the figure for 2007.
