Tractional Retinal Detachments in Adults and Children

Tractional retinal detachments (TRDs) are amongst the most difficult cases for vitreoretinal surgeons. However, recent advances in instrumentation, technique, and adjunctive therapies have helped facilitate better surgical outcomes. TRDs may occur in both children and adults, and though they share many anatomic and pathophysiologic similarities, there are important distinctions in the approaches to surgical repair. Here we review the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and strategies for management of TRDs in adults and children.
