As the skills shortage continues to bite, particularly in Western Australia wwhere a further 90,000 jobs will be generated over the next four years, skills migration continues to be high on the WA Government's list. That was the barrow being pushed by WA Skill Advisory Board chairman Chris Fitzhardinge in his keynote address at the 2005 Recruitment WA Conference. Organised by Vertical Events, the forum attracted delegates from the resources industry, the recruitment sector and government. "Government's around the world are looking at ways to simplify and make more attractive their skilled migration programs," Fitzhardinge explained. "Australia has a massive migration program, but there is unprecedented activity around the world in competing for skilled migrants. "If there was a silver bullet to the skills crisis it would be in attracting expats home (Australia) and reducing the number of skilled Australians going overseas."
