Significant new mineral investments opportunities have been created in Tasmania -- thanks mainly to the emergence of a global metals bull market and the island state government's efforts in attracting new players to its shores through the development of world-class geoscientific information. Traditionally regarded as being "green-locked", Tasmania is also beginning to prove to the world that it is more than willing (and able) to accommodate robust mining and exploration activities. Although the state enjoyed something of a gold rush at the turn of the 19th century -- and has since facilitated the development of a number of world-class deposits - the Tasmanian minerals sector experienced some dark days during the late 1990s/early 2000s when low commodity prices and stagnant global economies essentially brought everything to a grinding halt.
